In 2025, our team examined urban renewal in Shenzhen’s Shajing district through a combination of historical research, community fieldwork and stakeholder research. Approaching the area from the perspectives of residents, planners, researchers and everyday observers, we mapped the district’s spatial structure and the textures of its community life.
The research then grouped Shajing’s communities into four segments to clarify their current needs and future possibilities. By placing the district’s past, present, and future onto a shared map, the project offers a clear reference for future planning and public discussion.
