In 2019, the team partnered with Qianyan Bookstore to curate a series of exhibitions and talks exploring the future of bookstores, publishing, and cultural spaces. Through cross-regional collaboration and content-driven curation, the project examined new possibilities for what a bookstore could be.
At the heart of the initiative was an interdisciplinary exchange: bringing Tokyo’s Morioka Shoten and book curator Fuku Mitsutaka into Qianyan’s BOOKBAR space for two pop-up events and public lectures.
Morioka Shoten — known for its “one room, one book” philosophy—presented a 15-day pop-up in Shenzhen. In parallel, Fuku Mitsutaka, whose curatorial experience spans institutions such as the National Art Center Tokyo’s Souvenir from Tokyo shop, la kagū, ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur, WACOAL STUDYHALL KYOTO, and Japan House London, curated a selection tailored to Qianyan’s readership. He also shared his approach to book curation from the perspectives of design, culture and brand storytelling.
